Office moves measured in downtime

A commercial move gets judged by one thing: how many working hours the business loses. Everything else, the labeling, the dock schedule, the computer teardown, exists to keep the downtime inside a weekend. The metro's versions of this job vary plenty: tower floors downtown and in the Pearl, storefronts along the inner eastside, office suites in the Beaverton and Hillsboro business parks, clinics and studios in the Clackamas towns.
What the building controls
- Freight and elevators. Towers run their own calendars: freight elevator reservations, loading dock windows, certificates of insurance naming the building before anything moves. Buildings set these rules weeks ahead, and the mover works inside them.
- The lease clock. Lease-end dates, go-live mornings, landlord work landing mid-lease. Off-hour and weekend slots go to whoever books first.
- The IT stack. Workstations, cabling, the server closet, and shared peripherals. Movers who do this label cables and pad equipment so everything comes back up on schedule.
- The contents. Files, records, samples, stock. What travels locked, what gets itemized, and what stays under your own key are decisions to make before the cartons arrive.
Questions worth asking
- Dock hours and reservation steps at both buildings
- Whether a COI is required and who sends it
- The plan for labeling, cabling, and splitting the crew
- What happens to the schedule if the morning runs long
- How records and anything sensitive travel
The estimate
Written and itemized, built backward from the downtime target: crew size, equipment, and the coordination a business of any size carries. An office mover who will not put the plan on paper should not get the freight elevator keys.
Get it scheduled
Send the request with your lease dates, the two addresses, and what each building requires. The mover who calls back will say whether they have run a floor like yours before.
