When move-out and move-in don't line up

Not every move goes house to house in one day. The sale closes before the next place is ready. The remodel pushes the household out for six weeks. The lease ends on the first and the new one starts on the fifteenth. When a move breaks in two, the furniture needs somewhere to sit, and how it sits decides how the second half of the move goes.
Three ways the in-between gets handled
- Held on the move. The load leaves the old house, waits in storage, and delivers when the new one is ready. One company holds the whole chain, so one party answers for everything on both ends.
- Loaded into a unit. The crew packs the household into a container or storage unit and it stays put until the move resumes. The contents list you sign at load-out becomes the only record that matters until delivery.
- Staged around the work. Remodels and refinishes push furniture out of the way while trades work. Common in the metro's older houses, where the project list is never short.
The questions that protect you
- When does the clock start? Storage bills by the month and the handling bills per event. The estimate should show both and say exactly when storage time begins counting.
- Where is the list? Once the goods sit in storage, the contents list is the whole story of what is inside. Itemize the pieces that matter.
- Can you get to it? Some setups let you reach your things while they are stored, some do not. If you will need a box halfway through, say so before the load is chosen.
- Is the trip back priced? The delivery half belongs inside the first estimate. A quote that covers only the load-out is half a quote.
Say what the in-between looks like
How long, where the furniture waits, and whether you need to reach it meanwhile: put all three in the form. The mover who calls back plans both halves of the job at once, and the whole thing lands on the written estimate before a single box moves.
