Not every job needs a truck and a full crew day. A lot of metro requests come down to hands and equipment: a container in the driveway that needs loading, a rental truck nobody wants to carry a sofa into, a kitchen's worth of boxes nobody wants to pack.

The shapes these jobs take

• Container and rental loading. You supply the box or the truck, the crew supplies the labor, the pads, and the load plan. In Portland a container on the street needs a city permit reserving the space, and it has to be a street the permit covers; the driveway is the simpler answer where one exists.
• Pack days. Wrapping, boxing, labeling by room, the kitchen done by somebody who has packed a hundred kitchens. The load happens later with the hard part already finished.
• The single heavy piece. A safe out of the basement, a piano down a flight, the shop cabinet that came with the house. Small crew, real equipment, an hour or two instead of a weekend and a strained back.

What makes the estimate land right

• An honest count. Rooms, boxes already packed, stairs, and the distance from door to where the truck or container sits. Guesses turn a two-person job into three mid-morning.
• Equipment named up front. Dollies, shoulder straps, stair climbers, and pads. Equipment is not something a crew improvises onto a job.
• The awkward parts said early. A basement with a low ceiling, a stair with a turn in it, a garage at the end of a long drive. The estimate that names them is the one that holds.

When the help is worth it

• When the heavy things are actually heavy and the stairs are actually narrow
• When a pack day plus a load day plans the whole timeline instead of improvising it
• When the people in the house should not be carrying furniture down a flight, whatever anyone says
